Fastforward to release day. :)

Ok, so my dev time was spent devving not blogging, so this blog is going to be a scan of my general notes (see bottom of blog) – the minutia scribbles you don’t need.

A LOT was learned regarding publishing. There are quite a few other platforms besides Google Play. Here are the ones I tried.

  • Bemobi – “the Netflix of mobile apps” they call themselves. Easy to navigate, odd layout, not sure how long it will take for app to get published.
  • GetJar – “the world’s biggest open app store for Android”. Easy to navigate, few requirements, app is awaiting publish.
  • Mobango – ” Now you can upload your app in 3 easy steps, and distribute globally” Seemed to work exactly as described, but the pages all seemed to load very slowly on the main site.
  • Samsung – required use of the Samsung SDK, and since I find a lot of Samsung stuff very intrusive, I abandoned this one quick.

Assets! Every site seems to require different assets and some are rather strict about them. For example, Mobango doesn’t ask much of you, but a 800×450 image needs to be padded to the closest accepted resolution (800×480) or it won’t go thru.

Here’s the Google Play asset list I put together that I plan to use during my next project to prep assets:

Google Play

  • Icon: 512×512 32bit PNG
  • Screenshots: JPEG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha).
Min length for any side: 320px.
Max length for any side: 3840px.
At least 2 screenshots are required overall.
    Max 8 screenshots per type.
Drag to reorder or to move between types.
  • Feature Graphic: 1024 w x 500 h
JPG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha)
  • Promo Graphic: 1024 w x 500 h
JPG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha)
  • TV Graphic: 1024 w x 500 h
JPG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha)

And here are my current site and google play links for the app:
