So the MMO designer has a far bigger responsibility than just creating good game mechanics, she must create a believable virtual world for the MMO player to experience and inhabit. In order to make a virtual world seem more alive, risk and the threat of loss (money, gear, death, reputation, experience) is used as a tool to elevate the sense of drama in order to compensate for the artificial nature of the world.</description>
